Grow green: policy advocacy for plant-based farming

Length: 17 min.

How can policy help drive the plant-based transition forward? That’s the question that AC Baker and Alistair Currie from The Vegan Society discuss in this talk. They share the policy proposals that The Vegan Society has put forth to encourage the transition from a meat-centric food system to one that is plant-based, sustainable, equitable, and ensures the well-being of future generations.

Special note: AC Baker and Alistair Currie are keen to hear from people who farm veganically or are interested in farming veganically, and also from individuals and organizations who are interested in policy change and food systems change, both within the UK and internationally. They are currently consulting with stakeholders as they prepare their upcoming policy campaigns. You can get in touch with AC and Alistair at Policy@VeganSociety.com

AC Baker

AC has been at The Vegan Society since 2007 and is Policy & Research Advisor (Policy@VeganSociety.com). AC helped launch ‘Grow Green‘ for the Plant-Based Transition in Biosphere Management over 10 years ago. AC is a veganic gardener in England, growing mostly hardy legumes, soft fruit, and greens. AC helped transition 5 acres of sheep paddock in Scotland to a semi-natural managed stock-free woodland for coppice & horticulture agroforestry. AC ensures The Vegan Society responds to relevant public consultations – from international UN FAO level, to nation-level NGOs – and gives technical advice, including on biosphere management and climate change, to colleagues.

Alistair Currie

Alistair is the Public Affairs and Policy Manager at The Vegan Society (Policy@VeganSociety.com), joining the team in July 2024. He is also responsible for the society’s Grown Green campaign, supporting the transition from livestock farming to plant-based diets and agriculture.
